Lorna HartyAssists with general tasks

I moved from Reservoir to Sunbury in 2004 after losing my husband to cancer. Initially, I felt socially isolated and low in morale as I missed all my friends and didn't know anyone in Sunbury until I met Joan at the Probas Club who introduced me to the Foundation. My friend thought that coming along to the Foundation and helping out would be beneficial for me. I would have to say that this is one of the best things that has happened to me since coming to Sunbury. Volunteering at the Foundation has been a wonderful experience where I have met many beautiful and caring people who have taught me to cope with my personal stresses and given me the confidence to contribute to the community in a positive way. I look forward to coming every week to a relaxing and nurturing environment.

Why Volunteer for a Charity Organisation?

The Cancer and Natural Therapy Foundation is run by a team of dedicated and trained volunteers who have committed themselves to contributing to the cause of our organization. Our volunteers come from various age groups and backgrounds, and bring into the Foundation both their specific skills and personal experiences which have contributed to the enrichment of our services. The profile of volunteers below represent only the core of our volunteer team; many individuals assist with various tasks for different activities.

There are many benefits to becoming a volunteer:

  • Provides an opportunity to learn more about natural therapies and preventative medicine, through health seminars/workshops/courses and meeting people with challenging health problems;
  • Provides a sense of belonging by reducing isolation and meeting new people;
  • Helps to increase your self-confidence by learning new skills. This can include computer skills, communication and interpersonal skills, organizational and public relations skills;
  • Can provide one with a sense of purpose through contribution to the community and helping others;
  • Provides an opportunity to develop skills in a particular area of interest, such as Reiki practice, meditation, positive thinking etc through the different workshops that are offered.
  • Volunteer participation ensures the survival of non-profit and charity organizations such as ours.

Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Applications can be obtained through the Foundation by contacting Sandra Taylor-Maqueda on 9740 3977 (Mon/Tues/Fri).
